The Benefits of Copper Cookware

The most important factor when considering using copper cookware is its unique ability to conduct heat. It is not just that it heats well, and fast but that it heats the whole pot at the same time. Equally important is that when you turn down the heat under a piece of copper cookware the pot or pan cools immediately. This can be a crucial consideration depending on what it is you are cooking. If it is a sauce you are making then when it is the consistency you need it to be it must cool quickly so it does not burn, being able to be sure the pot will cool quickly instead of having to remove it from the heat is a definite advantage.

Copper cookware can be lined or unlined depending on its purpose. If it is to be used only as a mixing bowl then it will be unlined. There is no need to worry about that. It does not mean that there may be toxicity from the material, there will not be. It simply means that since a mixing bowl is used for different purposes, and kept very clean, that the lining is not necessary.

For example, you can beat egg whites better when using unlined copper cookware because of a chemical reaction that occurs between the copper and the egg. It makes the egg white lighter and easier to work with when cooking.  When it is a lining that is used in copper cookware the best choice is the stainless steel lining. This will prove to be very durable and long lasting and will not leave a metallic taste in your food. It may cost a little more but it is definitely worth it.

The best thing that cooper cookware can offer is the speed at which it heats and cools. This is unique to this kind of cookware and would be a consideration when you are about to purchase a new cookware set. The handles of your cooper cookware set will not be made of copper. This is because they would be too hot to handle while the food was cooking. Most often it is cast iron that is used for the handles on the pots as they take such a long time to get hot that there is much less change of burning fingers. One thing to remember about copper cookware is that it is a relatively expensive item to add to your kitchen. A single pot, depending on its size, can cost you over a hundred dollars.
